Regrets she does not have a copy of the photograph of Joaquin, her late husband, he requested. However, it was taken by a photographer, Miss Soule Cambell, in New York and she suggests he contact her. Daughter Juanita is taking photographs of the Heights, their home in the hills in Oakland, and will send them later.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
